I bet the Pope would be a fan of Pariday...
A lot of the press this past week about the Vatican has been negative, and rightly so. The Vatican envoy's complete rejection of the findings of the UN panel on clerical abuse is reprehensible. Clearly the Catholic church has a long way to go toward acknowledging, understanding, and remedying their policies on abusive priests.
However, I have been a fan of a lot of the actions of Pope Francis in his first year, and I wanted to give him just a tiny bit of credit for something else he did recently. During the special Papal baptism a few weeks ago, Pope Francis encouraged the mothers to breastfeed their babies if they were hungry - in the Sistine Chapel! "If they are hungry, mothers, feed them, without thinking twice. Because they are the most important people here," he said. It's a small step, but one that I'm sure those moms and hungry babies appreciated! Now if we could just get the general public to be so accepting... No matter what god you pray to - even good ol' Mother Nature - this does seem to be as He/She intended!
